Texas, Omaha and the Others

There are countless ways to play poker, maybe not as much as the stars in the sky but more than one's hand can count. And this number will still increase in the years to come. A poker game is generic for its various types. Each variant of poker has its own set of rules and own stunning strategies. Of all these types, they all have some features in common, such as the rank of hands and that each hand is made up of five cards.

Generally there are two divisions of poker draw and stud. Draw poker is referred to as closed poker and stud is known as open. In draw poker, all five cards of a hand are handed out before betting could begin. These five cards can be replaced by discarding up to three cards and drawing replacement cards. The hand is developed to rounds of drawing and discarding. In stud, there is no drawing of new cards once the cards are dealt.

Draw and stud poker can be played with five or seven cards. The higher the hand after the final delt card and bet is placed wins the pot. It could also be that whoever gets the lowest card combination wins the pot, if the game is a low hand game in lieu of the normal high hand game.

In stud poker, some cards may be dealt face up, usually the first two cards and the last card, are dealt face down. The rest of the hand is dealt face up. The betting happens every time a round of cards is handed to players after the first two are dealt to each player. In a five card stud poker, one's hand is made of these five cards and no others. If it is a seven-stud, one makes the best hand using just five of the seven cards.

In Hold'em poker the players at the beginning are dealt two hole cards and this is the base the players use to start the betting. All players will only know the cards in their hand and not what the others have received; then they place their bet. After the betting is through, three community cards that all use will be set on the table, this is called the flop.

Then another round of betting will ensure. Then one more community card is laid down, this is called the turn. Then another round of betting occurs. The last community card is now revealed, this is called the river. After those have been dealt out if there are still players, a showdown will happen where the strongest hand wins the pot.
